Who We Are
Artist Bio
Ryan “Mizta” is a multidisciplinary artist and muralist proud Washingtonian (specifically NorthEast) but his roots began in Prince George's County, Maryland, and has been an artist since a young child though didn't begin to hone his talents and explore his creativity until his college years. He spent a brief amount of time at Virginia State University then shortly after received an associate degree from Prince George's Community College in general studies. It wasn't until he attended Bowie State University, that he began to truly consider dabbling in the public arts field. Although he attained a bachelor's degree in computer science from Bowie State University, he spent many nights and weekends juggling being a new father, working two jobs, and drawing to his heart's desire. In 2015 he met a person by the name of Berkeley Garth Leopold Wright who went by the graffiti tag DABS (Do Anything But Stop) who introduced him to spray painting and the local DMV art community. From there he never looked back.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Being a single dad I am familiar with the highs and lows of life. Through the ups and downs I have always found it important to reinvent oneself and take on new ventures, opportunities, and hobbies to broaden and expand one's mind and general outlook on life. I find that through new knowledge life continues to be a breath of fresh air to not only focus you on goals but to also explore ones full and true capabilities. From the tender age of 8 l knew I wanted to be a professional artist though the climate and my environment at the time was not supporting of this dream. "Do Anything But Stop" has always been kind of a mantra for me, though it wasn't until I was introduced to the man himself (DABS) that I wholeheartedly and genuinely took on this belief system within my art and my personal growth.
My art reflects me, the things I have experienced, and most of the time are experiencing at the given moment. Art in that manner is very personal to me and my connection on this planet and to the ones I touch on my journey and travels. Bold vibrant colors that inspire life, movement, and love are used in my work to uplift and motivate. Attention to detail is also key in this artist's vision and how he presents himself, which is a nod to his outlook on the balances one must have in life. "We must always remember to be youthful and playful, don't take life too seriously.
Though, that does not mean there is not a time for dedication and work." My art started in the streets with graffiti growing my talent and earning respect in the field. I have grown to be a muralist and multidisciplinary artist. Risk Everything.
